I spent Monday and Tuesday this week in the school where I'll be doing my first block placement after Christmas... and I had a great time! It's a huge school - 5 classes in each year - which takes some getting used to, but I had a really good time. I'm with a year 3 class of 27, and they're really great kids. The ability range is pretty wide, and they're set for English and Maths, so in effect I have 3 classes... but I'm gradually learning names. I haven't taught any 'proper' lessons yet, but I've done 2 guided reading sessions, read a book to the class and supported groups in varous lessons. I've been getting really 'involved' as opposed to observing/taking notes, and have just been writing up the things I need to write up at lunch and in the evenings. I'm proud to say I know the names of the whole of 'my' class, and a good proportion of 'my' maths set as well. They have Literacy in their classes until half term, so when I next go back I'll have about 25 new names to learn as well.
Overall, all things PGCE are going well (except for the damn masters assignment... don't even mention that...) and I absolutely definitely still want to be a teacher. :)
